Bada Ganesh

Two passengers are waiting for train at Delhi railway station and just to pass their time, they are having a talk.

Where are you going?

img

Ujjain, and you?

img

I reside here and going to Indore for business purpose.

img

What do you do?

img

At present, I am not doing anything. But I have tried a lot but have not yet succeeded in any of the business. You tell me, is there any way that I can succeed. I heard, Ujjain is a city of religious people and temples.

img

Yes, yes why not. Ujjain is a religious and spiritual city. People from all over the world come to visit the temples and offer to god when their wishes are fulfilled.

img

If you listen, I want to give you one suggestion. A very old and historic temple of “Bade Ganeshji” is in Ujjain. Do visit once, before starting your new business.

Whole heartedly, mind and soul, worship there. I hope all your demands and wishes will be fulfilled.

Please tell me more about this temple “Bada Ganesh”and its location.

This temple is situated near the Mahakaleshwar temple, enshrines a huge artistic sculpture of Ganesh, the son of Shiva. An idol of this size and beauty is rarely to be found. The middle of the temple is adorned by an idol of the pancha-mukhi (five faced) Hanuman.

Bada Ganesh ji temple is an institute for teaching astrology and Sanskrit, an ancient Indian language considered the root of other Indian languages.

The Ganesh idol enshrined here is supposed to be  swayambhu – born of itself. Worshippers throng to this temple because the deity here is traditionally known as Chintaharan Ganesh meaning “the assurer of freedom from worldly anxieties”.

The Ganesha temple is also an important center of learning. This reflects on the status of temples in ancient Vedic times, circa 1500 b. c. when houses of prayer were study too.

The temple of Bada Ganesh glorifies the city of Ujjain. Ganesh is considered to be the most benevolent God that blesses his followers with wealth and prosperity. He has a very sweet figure with a tusk of an elephant and is considered to be the favorite son of Parvati, of Goddess Durga.
